Mardi Gras Fundraiser

(Sponsored in part by the Wilmington Fraternal Order of Eagles)

This was the agency’s 2nd annual fundraiser, held at the historic Snow Hill Country Club in New Vienna.  Festivities included a costume contest, split-the-pot raffle, dancing to a live band, open buffet and a silent and live auction.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month-Walk In My Shoes Event

To help raise public awareness regarding sexual violence, survivors of such assaults donated shoes with a brief narrative attached regarding their experience.  These shoes and stories were displayed in businesses, organizations and public offices as a way to expand knowledge not only of the crime, but also services available to help with coping and recovery.

Female Self-Protection Clinic
A self-defense class was held in collaboration with the Wilmington Police Department.  The event featured information on prevention strategies regarding sexual violence and rights in personal safety.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events

Our annual luncheons serve as a time to bring awareness regarding domestic violence to our community, as well as a time to recognize those who have survived, honor those who have passed on, those who donate, volunteer, and work to end the cycle of violence.

A Presentation That Inspires Victims of Violence to Move On

Speakers at this event:

Debra Puglisi Sharp - Debra has been featured on Oprah, 20/20, Montel, The John Walsh Show and other national talk shows. Debra survived being assaulted, repeatedly raped and held captive for five days. She openly discusses her pain, anger, grief and
despair that is the legacy of a violent crime. “From sunshine and roses to the darkest shadows in the grip of a madman, Debbie Puglisi Sharp tells her story of victory over horror and captivity.”-Ann Rule.

Diane M. Payler - A Warren County resident and author of “Buds on the Vine,” survived being shot and stabbed multiple times by her estranged partner. Diane has been an inspiration to many, drawing you into her world of physical and emotional pain,
sharing her story with both tears and humor.
